what to be aware of when divorcing your spouse

Every marriage is not meant to last forever. No matter what the reasoning behind the divorce, it is important to have legal representation for each side. I almost lost everything because my former spouse said that he was taking care of things and that he would be fair about how the assets were divided. It took several weeks for me to find out what he was up to. It was then that I hired my own attorney and got what I deserved. You should never attempt to go through a divorce without a lawyer working on your side. On my site, I have listed several of the issues that can get overlooked if you are inexperienced with divorce documents and proceedings.

3 Areas To Investigate If You Think Your Husband Is Hiding Income During Your Divorce

Joy Johnson

Divorces are never fun and they're never easy, especially if your soon-to-be ex-husband owns a cash business. When this is the case, your husband might be trying to hide some of his income from you, in an effort to pay less child support. The problem with this is that it can be hard to unveil the hidden cash, and it can also be expensive. Here are three tips that may help you and your divorce lawyer find out if he is hiding some of his income.

Check his bank statements

The first thing you can do is to have your lawyer request that he turn in his bank statements. By comparing his paychecks to the deposits on his bank statements, you might be able to find extra money. His deposits should not be more than his bank statements because if they are, he may be making more money than he is claiming.

Another thing to look at on the bank statements are his recent payments. Is he making his car payment, mortgage, and credit card bills? If you cannot find these types of payments on the statements and you know he is making the payments, it is likely that he is paying cash for them instead of using the money in his bank account.

Look into recent payoffs

Another option you have is to have your lawyer ask for other types of documents, such as car loan or home loan papers. If you see any extra payments on these accounts (especially large ones), there is a good chance he is trying to hide income by paying off debts he owes.

To do this, he may bring cash into the lender's office and make the payments that way, or he may be using money orders or other forms of payment.

Review changes in his lifestyle

If you notice any major changes in his lifestyle, he may be hiding money. For example, did he recently go on a trip? If so, are the charges present on his bank statements or credit card statements? If not, he may have paid cash for the trip. You can also look into major purchases he has recently obtained, and it might be a good idea to look carefully at his savings accounts.

If you can find extra money, it is likely that he is trying to hide some of his income from you. If this is the case, a divorce lawyer like Mauro Savo Camerino Grant & Schalk might be able to help you prove this, and this will help you get the correct amount of child support you deserve for your kids.
